Portable & camping fridges
We are warranty and service agents for Engel, Midea and Evakool, so a repair on one of those units keeps the manufacturer’s warranty intact.
Portable fridges work hard on this coast. Corrugations, heat, dust and salt air all take their toll, and compressors, control boards, thermostats, wiring and door seals are the usual culprits. A unit that has stopped cooling is often worth repairing rather than replacing.
We work on compressor fridges only. Three-way fridges, the absorption type that can run on gas, are not something we service or repair, so those need a licensed gas fitter.

Sometimes, but a sealed system does not consume refrigerant. If it is low, it has leaked, and topping it up without finding the leak buys you a few weeks at best. We will look for the cause rather than just the symptom.

Chilled product is generally held at 5°C or below and frozen at around -18°C, but the number that actually governs you is the one in your own food safety program. Tell us what you have to hold and we will set and check the controls to suit it.
Usually a defrost that is not working properly, a door seal letting warm damp air in, or a door being left open during a busy service. Ice on the evaporator chokes the airflow, so the room runs warmer while the compressor works harder. It is worth looking at early.

Start with the cheap things: clean condenser coils, sound door seals and a defrost that works. Beyond that, variable speed drives and electronic controls can make a real difference on older plant. We will tell you which of those is worth doing on your equipment rather than selling you all three.
